Why colouring is worth the table space
Colouring is quiet practice for the same small muscles a child needs for handwriting. Staying inside a line trains the grip and the wrist; choosing what goes where trains the patience to finish something. It is also one of the few activities a three-year-old and a nine-year-old can do at the same table, which is why we sort every sheet by how much detail it carries.
The alphabet and counting sheets do a second job: each one pairs a letter or a number with a picture that starts with the same sound, so a child colours their way through a phonics lesson without being taught one.
