Page 1I am Old Knot. I grow slow. One ring a year. Sometimes half a ring. There is no hurry inside a tree.
Page 2The saplings shot up in one spring. "Look how tall!" called Birch. "I reached the bluebird branch!" laughed Rowan. Little Elder twirled in the breeze. "Still there, Old Knot?"
