The pieces to colour and cut out

Page 2 holds these 156 shapes as separate cards with dashed cutting lines. Each card carries a letter, a dot in the colour that piece should be, and the colour’s name — so a child can colour and cut without turning back to another sheet. The letter is how the piece finds its place on the canvas. Either way they can be cut in any order.

About this printable

This activity book turns a simple sea creature into a fun geometry puzzle. Across three pages, your child will find a bell-shaped jellyfish body built from rounded shapes, long wavy tentacles made of thin strips, and a scattering of small circles and diamonds meant to look like bubbles drifting through the water. Every piece is a basic geometric shape, so kids get plenty of practice recognizing circles, ovals, triangles, and rectangles while still ending up with a picture that clearly reads as a jellyfish.

With 156 pieces total, this is a longer, more absorbing project than a quick one-page craft. Kids cut out each shape, sort them by size or color if they like, and glue them into place to build the jellyfish's rounded dome, its trailing tentacles, and the bubbly ocean scene around it. The repetition of cutting similar shapes helps build steady scissor control, while placing pieces in the right spot builds patience and spatial thinking.

A grown-up will be most helpful before the child even starts, laying out the pieces or pre-cutting a few tricky curved edges for younger scissors. Because there are so many pieces, it also helps to have glue ready and maybe split the project across two sittings so it stays fun instead of tiring. Once assembled, the finished jellyfish makes a bright, three-dimensional-feeling piece of art worth displaying.

How to use this printable

  1. Print all three pages on regular paper or card stock.
  2. Cut out each geometric shape piece, including the body circles, tentacle strips, and bubble shapes.
  3. Arrange the body pieces first to form the jellyfish's rounded dome shape.
  4. Glue the tentacles hanging below the body, then add the bubble shapes around the scene.
  5. Let the glue dry fully before hanging up your finished ocean artwork.

What it helps your child practise

Best suited to ages 4–7, though younger children enjoy it with a hand and older ones tend to add their own detail.

Printing tips

Print at 100% (not “fit to page”) if you want the exact size shown. Ordinary copier paper is fine for crayons and coloured pencils; if your child prefers felt tips, slightly thicker paper stops the colour bleeding through. The drawing is pure black on white, so it uses almost no ink.

After colouring, try a story

BookIsles reads illustrated books aloud and highlights every word as it is spoken, so your child follows along and starts recognising words on their own. Free to try, no card needed.
