Page 1Look down at the ground. Sometimes you find a feather lying there. Every feather once grew on a bird, and not all feathers do the same job.
Page 2A bird's whole body is covered in feathers. But if you look closely, you will see feathers of many different shapes. Each shape has its own special purpose.
Page 3At the very tip of the wing are the flight feathers. They are long, stiff, and a little curved. These strong feathers are what let a bird lift off the ground and fly.
